Team Lead Landscaping & Maintenance

McHenry, Illinois, 60050, US, US

Here’s the deal: we’re awesome at taking care of our customers and providing exceptional residential and commercial lawn care, landscaping, and fertilization services. That only happens because we have strong leaders in the field. If you’re ready to lead a crew—or you’re already doing it successfully—we want to talk.

At The Grounds Guys of McHenry, we’re more than just “the lawn guy.” We’re a dedicated team that takes pride in professionalism, quality, and doing it right—the Neighborly Done Right Promise.

What You’ll Do (Team Lead Responsibilities)

As a Team Leader, you are responsible for the day-to-day service delivery on assigned service contracts and have the authority to direct Team Members as needed.

Field Leadership & Service Execution

  • Lead a crew completing lawn maintenance, landscaping, and/or fertilization services with high quality and efficiency
  • Assign daily tasks based on skill level, route sheets, and priorities
  • Perform a final inspection/sign-off before leaving each property (quality control)
  • Proactively identify and help resolve customer service issues with Operations/Management

People Leadership

  • Coach and support team members to work safely, efficiently, and professionally
  • Help maintain accountability, strong attendance, and a healthy crew culture (retention)

Equipment, Vehicles & Trailer Operation

  • Drive a pickup truck and safely tow an open or enclosed trailer (including 8x16) (clean driving record required)
  • Ensure tools/equipment/vehicles are properly utilized, maintained, stored, and kept in a clean professional condition
  • Follow company vehicle and equipment standards—unsafe or careless operation can lead to discipline up to termination

Safety & Process

  • Follow all safety rules and ensure your crew does the same; report hazards and incidents promptly
  • Use LMN TIME correctly—team leads are expected to review timecards and ensure accurate daily timekeeping

Winter Readiness (Seasonal Expectation)

  • During winter operations, team leads may operate trucks with plows/spreaders and handle deicing materials; must be able to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Snow is an “emergency response” environment—availability and readiness during the winter season (Nov–Apr) is required
